Thrift Store
The Thrift Store is open to the public and offers resale items that have been donated by supporters of the Women's Resource Center. Clothing, home furnishings, books and other items are available at bargain prices.
The 5,300 square foot Thrift Store at the Women's Resource Center was opened to help meet the many needs of the clients we serve. Before we opened the Thrift Store, clients fleeing from abusive situations had only the clothes on their backs, and our residential occupants needed appropriate clothes for work, job-seeking or attending school. They had to sort through donated bags of clothing in search of something close to their size.
WRC opened the Thrift Store to be able to provide our clients with vouchers that are used "same as cash" to shop at the Thrift Store. This helps us give our clients a sense of dignity and of being back in control with the opportunity to select clothing and household items that would best suit their needs.
The Thrift Store also generates funds for the operation of WRC's other client services.
We are often asked the question "How can I help?" Here are some ideas:
- Donate your CLEAN WEARABLE CLOTHING and USEABLE household, decorative and personal items. Please DO NOT bring items that need to be repaired.
- Cash donations are always appreciated. Donations can be designated for the Caseworker Fund which provides for vouchers, bus passes, emergency food and many other emergency needs.
- Volunteer your time. The thrift store needs caring, professional volunteers to help our customers. To volunteer, contact our Volunteer Coordinator at (760)757-3500 x111.
